1. ABOUT BALLANTINE TECHNOLOGY — Ballantine Technology is an independent UK IT consultancy and device services provider. Device services may involve physical computers, storage devices, operating systems, hardware components and customer data.
2. ACCEPTANCE OF DEVICE SERVICE TERMS — Customers should read these terms before submitting a device or approving work. Booking a service, submitting a device and/or approving a quotation may create a contract subject to applicable terms and statutory rights. A general booking is not a substitute for required data-erasure authorisation.
3. CUSTOMER AUTHORITY OVER THE DEVICE — Customers must confirm they own the device or are authorised by the owner or organisation to instruct work. Business customers must ensure the arranging person has appropriate authority. Work may be refused where ownership or authority is reasonably in doubt.
4. DIAGNOSTICS AND ASSESSMENT — Diagnostics identify likely faults or next steps based on the device condition at assessment. Intermittent faults may not reproduce. Personal initial diagnostics may be free where stated on the current Device Services pricing page; business arrangements are governed by the applicable service or quotation.
5. QUOTES AND CUSTOMER APPROVAL — Relevant findings and pricing are provided before additional chargeable work outside the agreed service. NO ADDITIONAL CHARGEABLE WORK WILL BE UNDERTAKEN WITHOUT CUSTOMER APPROVAL. Unexpected faults, incompatible hardware, additional damage or expanded scope may require a revised quotation.
6. CUSTOMER BACKUPS AND DATA — Customers should back up retained files before sending a device whenever possible and should identify data requiring preservation. Repair, installation, storage replacement, troubleshooting and sanitisation may alter or lose data. Nothing removes consumer statutory rights or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. DATA ERASURE AND SANITISATION — Supported storage devices may receive storage-appropriate sanitisation. Erasure is destructive and intended to prevent ordinary recovery; explicit customer authorisation is required. Records may include device and storage identification, model, serial number, technology, sanitisation method, tool or firmware function, verification result and completion information. The sanitisation method is selected according to device, storage technology and agreed service; no method is described as universally 100% unrecoverable.
8. WINDOWS AND LINUX INSTALLATION — Ballantine Technology can install/reinstall Windows 11 and supported Linux distributions. Windows pricing covers installation/configuration work, not automatic purchase of a licence; appropriate Windows licensing remains required where applicable. Linux compatibility can vary by device, components and distribution.
9. BUSINESS DEVICES, INTUNE AND AUTOPILOT — Business devices may be registered or enrolled in Intune, Autopilot or other management platforms. Customers must have authority to remove, reset, redeploy or recommission managed equipment. Organisational removal of Autopilot, Intune, firmware restrictions or other management controls may require the customer or authorised administrator to act. Security controls will not be bypassed without authorisation.
10. BIOS / UEFI PASSWORDS AND ENCRYPTION — BIOS/UEFI passwords, BitLocker, encryption and recovery keys may restrict services. Customers should disclose relevant controls before work begins. Access to locked or encrypted devices is not guaranteed.

11. MALWARE AND SECURITY FINDINGS — Malware, potentially unwanted software or suspicious activity found during agreed work may be documented and reported. Additional remediation requires approval. Approved sanitisation may remove affected storage; wider compromise may warrant separate investigation or incident-response work.
12. REPLACEMENT PARTS — Compatible customer-supplied components may be installed subject to condition and compatibility. Ballantine Technology may source parts only after price and approval; no sourced component is purchased without approval. Customer-supplied parts have no Ballantine Technology manufacturer warranty. Any sourced-part warranty is explained according to the actual applicable warranty.
13. REPAIR BEFORE REPLACE — Where practical, customers are offered repair or upgrade before replacement. Not every device will be economical or technically possible to repair.
14–17. CONDITION, WARRANTY, SHIPPING AND TIMES — Devices may have existing cosmetic damage, port damage, degraded batteries, failing storage, liquid damage or intermittent faults; significant conditions may be documented on receipt. Ballantine Technology is not responsible for pre-existing damage and does not exclude responsibility for damage it causes where liability cannot lawfully be excluded. Third-party work may affect manufacturer or retailer warranty. Customers should package devices appropriately and use tracked, appropriately insured delivery; included return delivery remains subject to current service information. Turnaround times are estimates unless expressly guaranteed in writing and may be affected by complexity, parts, approval, shipping, compatibility, operating systems, security controls and third parties. Material delays will be communicated.
18–19. QA AND COMPLETION — Applicable QA may include boot, storage, operating system, driver, network, update, sanitisation, hardware and restart/shutdown checks. Proof may include limited screenshots/photos without intentional sensitive information. Applicable services may include a Device Service Completion Report with work, QA and verification evidence. BUILT. TESTED. PROVEN.
20–24. PAYMENT, RIGHTS, CANCELLATION, LIABILITY AND UNCOLLECTED DEVICES — Current pricing appears on the Device Services page or quotation. Invoices are payable as stated on invoice and general terms; payment may include bank transfer, card, PayPal or supported cryptocurrency, which does not remove statutory refund/cancellation rights. Nothing restricts UK consumer rights; services are performed with reasonable care and skill where required. Remote customers may have cancellation rights; starting within a cancellation period may require early-start acknowledgement, with consequences depending on work begun and applicable law. Nothing excludes liability where unlawful, including death/personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or liability that cannot be excluded. Reasonable contact attempts are made for ready, pending or stalled devices; any long-term uncollected-device process uses reasonable notice and applicable law.
25–28. PRIVACY, COMPLAINTS, LAW AND CONTACT — Device data handling is governed by the Privacy Policy and Privacy & Device Data Handling Policy. Contact concerns at info@ballantinetechnology.co.uk. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales without removing mandatory consumer rights about proceedings.
